Island Hopping By Mountain Bike & Boat Greek Aegean MTB Standard 2025

Bodrum - Yaliciftlik - Kos - Nisyros - Tilos - Halki - Symi - Knidos - Bodrum

Exploring the southern Dodecanese islands by mountain bike and boat is an active vacation that is sure to put a big smile on any mountain bikers face! Spend a week on a charming small ship and travel to the most beautiful islands of the Southern Greek Aegean, relax in idyllic bays, bike through pristine nature, enjoy magnificent views and follow in the footsteps of an eventful and glorious past.

By mountain bike, explore the towering volcanic crater of Nisyros and the variety-packed island of Tilos. Be captivated by the charm of barren Symi with its beautiful island capital characterized by classicist buildings. Visit the Hippocrates’ Island, the most famous doctor of antiquity, who taught the art of healing on the island of Kos.

The hilly to mountainous terrain of the South Aegean islands requires a good level of fitness from all participants. The terrain offers everything a mountain biker could wish for, from wide natural paths to varied single trails. The ascents are usually manageable along asphalt roads followed by trails that can at times be technically challenging and at times flowing, right by the sea. The tour takes place parallel to the boat and bike trip South Greek Aegean Plus on the same ship for all dates. One guide will organise and lead the mountain bike group while the other takes care of the e-bike/road bike cyclists. If you have a partner or friend who prefers cycling to biking then bring them along! Enjoy the holiday together and carry out your individual cycle passion during the day.

Approx 125-193km; 2,500-4,600m elevation by MTB or e-MTB, S0-S3

Important Notes

Route, Itinerary & Inclusions are subject to change without prior notice.

Port taxes, entrance fees, sightseeing and excursions (if not included in the package) must be paid in local currency upon arrival.

It is highly recommended that clients take comprehensive travel insurance including against cancellation of reserved services.

Itinerary Changes
Cruise operator reserves the right to make changes to the itinerary, depending on wind and weather conditions or organisational requirements. This cruise is sometimes operated in opposite direction. Tours are dependent on weather conditions and the final decision is that of the captain.

Helmet Requirement
Helmets are mandatory on our bike tours. It is advised to bring your own, well fitted, helmet with you as our rental helmet numbers are limited (reservation required). Furthermore, we recommend riders to carry arm and leg protectors during the bike tours.

MTB Level 2
Moderate to challenging daily tours in hilly terrain at distances of 25-45 km and 550-1,200 metres of elevation. The terrain in this region is very diverse and changes from island to island: technical and demanding single trails alternate with wide gravel 4x4 roads and sometimes also quiet asphalt stretches; there are very few unrideable points. Various sections in the tour are offered at a higher or lower technical degree, leaving you to make the final decision. Tours are dependent on weather conditions and the final decision is that of the captain. You are free to set aside a half or full day to swim or spend time on board the boat, instead of taking a planned bike-tour.

Single-Trail Classification
To ensure that you are well prepared for your bike tour with Island Hopping and know what technical difficult level to expect, a classification has been created for all single trails that could be ridden on the tours. The difficulty levels included in our classification coincide with the Single Trail Scale which can be found at http://www.singletrail-skala.de

Blue (easy, S0 - S1): small obstacles such as small roots, small stones, some erosion, gradients of up to 40%, loose surfaces, tight corners but no hairpins, obstacles can be rolled over. Skilful braking and weight shift required, riding while standing.
Red (medium, S2): loose surfaces, larger stones and roots, steps and shallow stairs, gradients of up to 70%, light hairpins. Constant readiness to brake, shift of centre weight to overcome obstacles, accurate braking, consistent body tension required.
Black (difficult, S3 - S5): blocked single trails, many large boulders and roots, smooth/slippery surfaces, loose scree slopes, large steps/drops, extremely steep gradients of over 70%, tight hairpins. Expert level of bike control/handling required.

Group Riding Pace
On a guided MTB tour the speed of the group is determined by the mountain bikers on regular bikes. If you have hired an e-MTB, we ask you to respect those in the group who are riding without electric support. Those on regular bikes require more time and recovery when biking up hill. We thank you for your understanding.

Children
We believe that only children in a good physical condition with a minimum age of 14 who have previous MTB riding experience can keep up with the demands of our mountain bike tours. In addition, they should have prior experience with riding techniques needed for descending on narrow trails and technical terrain. Please be aware, that our smallest rental mountain bikes are suited to a body height of 1.50m and above (XS frame). When travelling with children, we recommend the Multi-Adventure Tours in Greece and Croatia which are specifically curated for families and offer family-friendly pricing.
