Meteora, Greece
Meteora is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is situated in the northern part of Greece and the closest city is Kalambaka, from where you can take a bus to reach Meteora. This is an incredible place to visit, where you can see one of the largest building complexes of monasteries built on natural rock towers. Numbering total of 24 monasteries at its peak in the 16th century, there are only 6 remaining today. A visit to these monasteries will require a hike and visitors will need to be dressed appropriately. A good idea is to bring some bottled water and a few snacks as there are no shops nearby. For James Bond fans, the 1981 film “For your Eyes Only” was filmed in Meteora at the Monastery of Holy Trinity.
