The promise of crystal-clear seas and the beauty of numerous hidden bays and coves are attracting tourists to one of the best-preserved botanical areas in the Mediterranean. Named the ‘Emperor’s Island’ in Roman times, Lastovo later joined the Dubrovnik Republic, while keeping its autonomy and traditions. The famous Lastovo Carnival, globally one of a kind, was recognised as one of the most valuable customs in the country and put under protection of the Republic of Croatia.
