It is one of the top tourist destinations in Croatia, located in the southwest of Dubrovnik. Beautiful untouched nature, appealing aromatic pine trees and crystal clear blue sea as well as the rich gastronomic offer, especially sea food, goat cheese, wine and honey makes this island very desirable to visitors. There are many charming settlements and fishing villages over the island. The larger part makes the National Park, characterised by two deep bays called lakes, the Great Lake and the Small Lake, due to their narrow links to the open sea. In the middle of the Great Lake you can visit the beautiful complex of Benedictine monastery, dating from 12th century, surrounded by the dense Mediterranean vegetation. Lots of legends are connected with this amazing island, the most famous being one related to the Greek hero Odysseus, who was captured here for 7 years in an island cave.
